Sirens and Jet Stream

Life in the Mountains

I recently had a conversation with a woman in Los Angeles about what it is like here in the San Juan Mountains. There seems to be a certain mystique about how life unfolds here, especially for those who live in densely populated areas, and major metropolitan communities. It is mornings like these that help me respond to that question. There is undoubtedly a change in the seasons right around the corner, the mountains still have snow on them, but there are patches of green grass that are showing. There is a natural rhythm, one that is predictable and comfortable. The chill of the mornings give way to warmer days, and the hope of summer.

It is hard to describe to some the fact that I haven’t heard a siren where I live, only the barking of dogs at other “creatures” in the night. I have yet to hear jet aircraft but know the world is out there when I see a beautiful jet stream across the solid blue sky. Living here forces one in, to that place where faith and hope live. Where the soul is fed with the rush of the river in the spring, where sunrises and sunsets bookend each day and where life is simple.

I have been fortunate to have two years in this magical place, and in those two years I have been working on building Tapestry Lodge and Coaching. This is a place where women can come to find rest, to find an interruption of a negative pattern. The world doesn’t touch you here you reach out to it. I have found that not being able to touch the world is exactly what some women need to find themselves. They have gotten so lost in their own chaos, grief, activity that they have become human doings not human beings. Here we have to be first, it is a part (literally) of the landscape of the valley.

So as you look at your week ahead, what types of things do you have planned to be? Do you have a journal, if so how long has it been since you visited it? Journaling for me has created a ladder to crawl out some incredible holes. Isn’t that beautiful, that is from the author of Eat, Pray, Love~ Elizabeth Gilbert. This book is a must read for any woman who is a seeker. Do you have any plans to take a walk on the beach, or around the lake? Sometimes all that is required to be is to do something different that your normally do.
